Update 2
This travel lark is draining, and wandering - in this case along the streets of Glasgow - is oddly energising when unladen. I've been told by a friend that when travelling, the muscles in the neck are constantly contracting to keep one's head in place while the body is subject to external motion. (I think that's what she was saying anyway.) This is subtly draining, explaining the effect of travel. Hampden Park stadium tour incorporating Scottish Football Museum today. Very intriguing, and having never been *inside* a stadium with even 8,000 seats, the 52,000-seater Hampden was mildly imposing. Oddly big gap between seats and stand, a relic of its athletics past that wasn't quite corrected in the last redevelopment. (possibly a good thing, as Hampden will host athletics should Glasgow win the 2014 Commonwealth Games bid.) Tramway Theatre was the next stop, per Weaver's suggestion months ago. Interesting building, displays were (for me) somewhat transient in their appeal but by no means unenjoyable. This is my last weekend as a 20-year-old. Yikes, that's scary. The journeys are now shorter from here, though still non-trivial in length, and more condensed too. Tomorrow's overnight stop in Carlisle may be almost nothing else, I'd planned a town stroll but not so sure now. The stop in Arnside (Monday-Tuesday) may be less activity-based than planned too, for I will then enter a busy whirl of urban stops and meeting people: Gizensha of the Commentariat in Blackpool on Wednesday, cousin Dan and a number of others in Manchester on Friday (the birthday itself), and my regular reader in Birmingham on Saturday, breaking a very long journey. I hope I'm in a state to speak eloquently enough to these people; seeing them was always seen as a potential highlight, and I don't want to be in a state where it becomes negative.
