Quirks presents...

Historique

13th July 2006

6:33pm: As of right now:
* I am precisely one week away from turning 20. In spite of this I am only now preparing for university, and my ability to travel is significantly restricted by a tabloid-reading, overprotective mother.
* Such is my fear that Mum will micromanage my life that she is still unaware that I write lyrics and occasionally music - because I believe she will look at everything I write, much of which I'd rather she didn't.
* I am considering a few days camping to clear my head, explore a little and probably write a fair bit; location is irrelevant so long as I can travel there by public transport, preferably rail.
* In two and a half months I will be free. Until then, I will continue to have such supposedly uncool music as Kelly Clarkson, Amy Studt and Yellowcard constantly in my head; the reason for this is because all three have produced what I consider independence anthems (Breakaway, Gonna Be Fine and Way Away respectively; I may come back to one or more of these in future posts).

A thought: often older singers are preferred because they have had more life experiences which they can (in theory) express more effectively in song. Would songs referring to gaining independence - more obviously relating to young adults - be a counterexample to this?
