: There is a reason the separate post didn't happen
The issues resolved themselves.
Mum has no objections to Alice, and furthermore has promised - and for the first time in years, I am in a position to believe her promises - she will not intervene in my learning of the instrument. (She played clarinet herself many years ago, and I had gained the impression she wished to learn again, which made me very nervous in case she took an excessive interest.)
Furthermore, Mum did in fact know about my songwriting as far back as at least 2005 and has not looked at my lyrics in that time, and indeed shows relatively little interest in seeing them now.
My father has suggested she will be offended by my decision to spend my 21st away from home (read that again; for the first time this calendar year, I am calling Weymouth home). To my horror, my cousin Daniel, formerly my staunchest ally, agreed - but Mum has denied such a thing. Therefore, there is no issue, and if my father attempts to use this to reopen the wounds he has with both my mother and my cousin I will sever all ties with him.
Unthinkable as it would have been even a few days ago, my staunchest family ally is now my mother. She has corrected her mistakes and then some, offering me a remarkable degree of freedom that if anything has got to my head.
Separately; last voice lesson with Gemma at 2:30. Expect a long brain-dump after it.
