: A European Championships without the pariah state of Europe? Bring it on!
Delighted with England's inability to qualify, very disappointed that I didn't place another bet on an England defeat (8.50 with one bookmaker!), and too easily amused that Poland made it when England didn't. Take that, Hell!
Went to open mic night. When I arrived, it was 2-0. I started writing lyrics that started off as a lament to the team of sorts, then changed and expressed some kind of joy, not quite smugness, and then a second verse putting the events at Wembley Building Site in the context of the real news story of the week (with the lyrically sneaky line 'while Steve's no darling' in the second chorus).
Tried to sing it later in the night - in fact, within twenty minutes of the full-time whistle - but messed up a little bit. Still went down well, lyrically at least, and I'm now going to polish that song a bit. Considered calling it 'England 2 Croatia 3' in homage to Kirsty Maccoll, but currently it's entitled 'The Ballad of Scottie's Glove'.
Full lyrics will be posted here at some point, probably once the melody is properly written out.
In other musical news, went into the city centre yesterday to look for some proper earplugs, ones that have a somewhat more persistent attenuation of noise across the spectrum to maintain clarity. Trying to decide if it's worth paying £16 for them given that the strength of attenuation is in fact somewhat weaker. While I was there in the music shop, I found... lawks, the sheet music for Let Go! And flicking immediately to I'm With You... ah, it's in 6/8... oh of course it is...
'Without recourse to the sheet music, I would guess this covers a range of roughly A3-D5', said I after performing it at karaoke for the first time. Nearly... it's A3-E5, and that be more than mildly interesting, because singing that loudly, that note comes out far more often than not...
Tonight - off to see the parody musical produced by the medicine students, and hoping it's not overwhelmingly full of the Wrong Type Of Shiny. It shouldn't be, but...
