: That's (possibly not) the way to do it
Returning to an old thread here; Weymouth finally has two trains per hour to and from London. They've done this by extending the existing Waterloo-Southampton services (that called at many more stations than Waterloo-Weymouth, which doubled as the fast route to/from Southampton with Woking as the only intermediate stop between Waterloo and Winchester) to Poole, and the existing Waterloo-Poole service to Weymouth. The bizarre Brockenhurst-Wareham stopping services have been abandoned and to fill that gap, the trains from Waterloo now stop at different places.
This has been done in such a haphazard way that my journey home from Southampton will now be noticeably slower. No, really! This is because my 'home' station is not Weymouth but Upwey, which is only served by the 'slow' train - the faster through services will not call here. This necessitates getting that slower train... the 1:32 journey is extended to 1:40.
By contrast, the journey to Weymouth is faster now - 1:31 (was 1:37) from Southampton, despite now stopping at Parkstone and Branksome (the two intermediate stops in The Amy Studt Conurbation).
The non-stop Dorchester-Weymouth service (eight minutes) in addition to a stopping service (eleven minutes) will be useful, though. Whether it'll get used or not is another matter...
