3:07pm: Screech Or No Screech II
It's another day of vocal recitals. I've decided 'only' to go to the last five; I've also been doing some revision for my final exam, and this morning watched a quite remarkable episode of MILJOENENJACHT.

First up, then, was AW, and we have one of Zoe's 10% - a musical theatre soprano! The programme's theme was 'freedom and captivity', so it should go without saying that my eyes did not remain dry throughout. It was embarrassing, though, that the trigger line was in All I Ask Of You... 'all I want is freedom' is the stupidest, yet most obvious, trigger line ever. This piece was performed as a duet with an international student who actually appeared in the Cypriot qualifier for Eurovision, coming seventh; given the obvious vocal talent he displayed today, he must have been shafted with a song not good enough to be a UK entry... AW's performance was good, too, and I am both starting to question my doubts over soprani in musical theatre and strengthening my intention for my lead character in my nascent musical to be a soprano.

The full programme bears repeating: Summertime, Think Of Me, Green Finch And Linnet Bird, The Miller's Son, Oh Wouldn't It Be Loverly, All I Ask Of You, I Could Have Danced All Night.

Next up, Kelly, one-quarter of the group I composed an SSAA acapella piece for with an eye on last weekend's concert. (As has been mentioned before, this plan has been postponed due to adverse harmonic conditions. Or something.) A bizarre time-travelling programme, starting with 17th-century lute song, passing through two Mozart arias and a Ralph Vaughan Williams setting of a poem, before ending up with three musical theatre pieces, one by Cole Porter and two from the writers of Les Miserables (though only the last was actually from said musical). Throughout, she was expressive both visually and vocally, and as per usual was rather clearer than many singers of her ilk. Thumbs up. The last two pieces made me cry; with the last recital I went to on Monday having also triggered tears at one point, I'm on a three-in-a-row streak. This is quite worrying...

VR extended the streak tonight, was generally wonderful (wasn't entirely convinced about her diction, but she has a quite lovely timbre to her voice and is generally very technically accomplished), and I decided I couldn't take any more. With the two afterwards being people I've heard already (WH and KB) I felt little incentive to stay, and rather a lot of incentive to leave. Avoid any more tears...
